Panel 1 – Energy Supply Opportunities

Saskatchewan has a rich and unique endowment of energy resources and opportunities.  As the Government of Saskatchewan noted in the 2009 Throne Speech, all energy options need to be considered to determine the best way to meet the province's future energy needs in a way that is affordable, reliable and environmentally acceptable.  Over and above provincial requirements, future expansion and diversification of Saskatchewan's energy sector will position it to grow as a reliable source of supply to markets around the world.  What opportunities exist to build on Saskatchewan's world class uranium industry?  How has Saskatchewan been able to become a growing producer and exporter of conventional crude oil?  How will Saskatchewan meet the electricity demands of a growing economy while reducing its carbon footprint?  What is the opportunity for renewable energy to become a bigger part of the electricity mix in the province?

Moderator:  Pat Youzwa, President & CEO, SaskPower

Keynote Speaker:  Kent Campbell, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Energy and Resources, Government of Saskatchewan

Panel 2: Energy and Climate Change

The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to finding solutions to the environmental challenges facing our province, our country and our planet.  Through Go Green Saskatchewan, the provincial government is committed to helping homeowners, communities, schools, hospitals and businesses Go Green in their day-to-day lives.  The provincial government has undertaken extensive research and analysis to develop a balanced approach to responding to this global change.  The Ministry of Environment has developed a climate change framework and legislation that considers the unique challenges and opportunities of the province with the goal of producing proactive and tangible GHG reductions.  They have initiated a “made in Saskatchewan” climate change policy that is designed to be proactive and effective in collaboration with regulated emitters with the goals of supporting economic competitiveness and meeting provincial GHG emission targets.
