With more than 19 years’ experience in communications, Colleen Killingsworth, APR, ABC has provided strategic communication services for government, corporate communication, not-for-profit and association clients. She is an experienced communications planner and manager, having developed and implemented strategies for both internal and external stakeholders which have provided her with valuable skills in media relations, media training, crisis communications, issues management, marketing communications, community relations, and public relations planning and execution.

 

Her client experience includes National Energy Board, Canadian Pacific Railway, Solectron Corporation, Alberta Cancer Board, NovAtel Inc., Suncor Energy, Husky Energy, Shell Canada, ESBI Alberta (now part of the Alberta Electric System Operator), The City of Calgary, Dynetek Industries, Accenture and the Canadian Coalition for Responsible Environmental Solutions. She is currently serving as president of the Canadian Centre for Energy Information.

Born in Reno, Colleen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. She is Accredited Public Relations (APR) through the Public Relations Society of America and Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) through the International Association of Business Communicators, and is serving a second term as National President for the Canadian Public Relations Society 2005/2007. She is also the past-president of the Sierra Nevada chapter of the Public Relations Society of America as well as the past-president for the Calgary Member Society of the Canadian Public Relations Society. She has served as a CPRS National Board member since 2000, Chair of the CPRS National Governance Review Task Force 2003/2004, Chair of the CPRS National Accreditation Task Force for 2000/2002 and Chair of the CPRS National Accreditation Process Improvements Implementation Team 2002/2003. Her work has won both local and national awards presented by the Public Relations Society of America, the Canadian Public Relations Society, the American Marketing Association, the Catholic Hospital Association and the International Association of Business Communicators.


In 2002 and 2004, Colleen was honoured with a Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) Major Award – the CPRS Lamp of Service – Canada’s most coveted public relations honour for an individual member.
