The objective of the 2005 Executive Energy Forum, sponsored by the Energy Council of Canada, is to ensure timely actions are taken to ensure a reliable and secure energy future for North America. Achieving this objective will mean advancing the dialogue between industry and the federal, provincial and territorial governments.

TUESDAY, MAY 31 2005 (CALGARY) Michael Cleland, Chair of the Energy Dialogue Group and President of the Canadian Gas Association, provided a perspective on the Forum sessions. Sustainability was a recurring theme at the Forum. Cleland said it was clear the concept needed to be more clearly defined in order to be able to sharpen policies in this area. He quoted presenter André Caillé, Chair of the World Energy Council, as saying that access to energy (a critical issue in much of the developing world) and security be added into the definition of sustainability.

CALGARY, Tuesday, May 31, 2005 – Deputy Ministers of Energy and Presidents of energy industry associations have set the bar high for the next Council of Energy Ministers’ meeting to be held in September 2005 in New Brunswick. Eight panelists in a roundtable discussion at the Executive Energy Forum 2005 discussed the major challenges facing Canada’s energy industry and proposed a number of solutions, including a new energy framework that would clearly tell Canadians where the Canadian energy sector is heading in the short- and long-term.

CALGARY, Tuesday, May 31, 2005 – In the opinion of Michael Raymont, Vice President, Technology and & Industry Support, National Research Council and panelist at the Executive Energy Forum 2005, Canada has the potential to become an energy superpower, creating an attractive investment environment for energy and many other industries. Panelists tend to agree that it was the role of government to create an environment conducive to energy technology investment and to develop risk sharing mechanisms, especially for capital intensive projects.
