David Butters
President, The Association of Power Producers of Ontario (APPrO)
Dave Butters was appointed as APPrO’s first full-time President in April 2004.
Prior to joining APPrO he was Vice President, Public Affairs, and Director of the Canadian Energy Asset Group for Hill & Knowlton Canada, where his clients included a wide range of energy companies and organizations such as Bruce Power, TransAlta, Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., Fortis Ontario, Toronto Hydro, the Association of Major Power Consumers in Ontario, and Petro-Canada. He also has been active in the electricity sector as Secretary to the Stakeholders Alliance for Electricity Competition and Customer Choice better known as SAC.
He held a similar position at another Toronto-based consultancy previously, and was Chief of Staff to the Hon. Tom Hockin PC, Canada’s Minister of Tourism, Small Business and Science in the Mulroney government.
He has an extensive background in advertising management and marketing communications both with the private sector and the Ontario government.
He holds a BA from York University, and is a member of the Board of Management for the Ontario Centre for Energy (part of the Ontario Centres of Excellence which foster innovation and commercialization of industry and academic research collaborations in specific technologies) and a Director of Friends of HMCS Haida, an organization dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of H.M.C.S. HAIDA - a national historic site monument now moored in Hamilton Ontario.
