Philip C. Lachambre
Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer Syncrude Canada Ltd.
Phil Lachambre has been in the oil & gas industry for 35 years, 29 of which have been with Syncrude Canada Ltd. He was appointed to the position of Executive Vice-President in 1997 and has held the position of Chief Financial Officer since 1994. His areas of responsibility include controllers, treasury, legal, corporate environment, health and safety, business development, government and public affairs, investor and stakeholder relations, and aboriginal affairs.
Mr. Lachambre joined Syncrude in 1975 in the Projects Department, and was subsequently appointed Manager of Contracting Services in 1979; Operations Manager of Syncrude’s real estate arm, Northward Developments Ltd., in 1983; Project Controller of the Capacity Addition Project in 1985; Business Manager in 1986; Vice-President of Human Resources in 1987 and Vice-President Business and Corporate Affairs in 1992.
Prior to Syncrude, from 1972 to 1975, Mr. Lachambre worked for C.F. Braun & Co. as a section head in expediting and subcontract administration on the Imperial Oil Strathcona (Edmonton) Refinery Project. From 1970 to 1971 he acted as a buyer for the Chevron-Kaybob (Alberta) gas plant project with Ralph M. Parsons Construction.
Mr. Lachambre holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (1976), University of Alberta. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario’s Executive Management Program (1984) and has a Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) designation (1982) from the Purchasing Management Association of Canada.
He currently serves as Chair of the Athabasca Oil Sands Development Facilitation Committee, and President of RIWG (Regional Industry Working Group). These groups of senior oil sands industry executives work towards responsible oil sands development by identifying and facilitating resolution of regional issues.
Mr. Lachambre’s professional and community affiliations include: Member, Conference Board of Canada Council of Financial Executives; Member, Board of Directors, Energy Council of Canada; Member, Canadian Chamber of Commerce; Member, Purchasing Management Association of Canada; Member, University of Alberta Business Advisory Council; Member, Oil Sands Executive Policy Group, Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers; and past Chair, YMCA of Fort McMurray.
Mr. Lachambre was born in Edmonton, Alberta and has two children, Marc and Jacqueline. He is married to Cathy MacDonald who also has two children, Sarah and Ashley. His interests include golfing, fishing, hunting and running.
